Who's this Guy ?

whosthisguyHe is a positive, generous, response-able, diligent, dynamic and motivated individual who seeks out challenges, adventure and growth. He believes that to be successful we need to have VPR-not CPR or VHS or anything like that, but VPR: Vision, Passion and Resolve.

Being an only child, he spent much of his youth entertaining himself (we know how that sounds, but no…) and family with voices and impersonations! At 16 he wrote, produced and performed a 45 minute One-Man political satire show. The show was highly successful at corporate events, clubs, and fundraisers. The highlight was being invited by Pieter Dirk-Uys, the doyen of political satire, to perform at Evita se Perron, his theatre in Darling. Entitled Should I Stay or Should I Go, the show embraced eleven characters including Madiba, former Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Buthelezi, Winnie Mandela, Pik Botha and Bond…BroederBond!! Having performed these shows for 6 years to rave revues, he embarked upon Stand-up Comedy and was invited to perform at the Cape Town Festival. Two comedy slots at a high profile wedding of one of former President Thabo Mbeki’s advisors, where guests included two Deputy Govt. Ministers and the Premier of the Western Cape, proved highly successful.

His interest in Radio saw him join Mfm 92.6, Community Radio in Stellenbosch where he presented, amongst others, his own show (The G-Spot) for 4 years, every Saturday and Sunday afternoon. This offered him the opportunity to interview celebrities and info-tain his community of listeners with pertinent news and views!
At the end of 2005 he went to London and completed a Certificate in Radio Presenting at the London Academy of Media Film and Television. Subsequently employed at the commercial radio station, 94.5 Kfm from Dec 2005 to June 2008 he had the privilege of presenting amongst others, The “Partyzone” every Friday and Saturday 10pm-2am, The World Chart Show every Saturday 6-8pm and the “Sundown” show, Monday to Friday 6-10pm.

Experience in the Retail radio industry entailed him presenting the Weekday Breakfast show at The Sound of Ackermans, Ackermans retail radio station, broadcasting live to 5 Southern African Countries for almost 5 years! This time proved invaluable as it saw him responsible for conceptualising, writing and managing the production of commercials & on-air promotions.

The end of 2008 heralded change in both retail and commercial radio as Guy signed up with the commercial radio station Good Hope fm and Feelgood fm, the retail station of PEP stores. Guy presented the primetime Afternoon Drive show 3-6pm, Monday to Friday on Good Hope fm where his irreverent sense of humour, characters and insight into the pulse of the Mother City  proved enormously popular. This popularity was recognised with a Silver MTN Radio award for "Best Daytime Show" in 2010. These national radio awards include radio professionals and stations from across South Africa www.mtnradioawards.com

2010 also saw Guy depart Feelgood fm and return to the Sound of Ackermans retail station, the station he previously enjoyed 4 happy years with. It seems you can't beat a good thing so he was back at Ackermans where he was welcomed back as the Weekday Breakfast show host.

2011 brought another award for Guy and his Good Hope FM team as they won Gold in the MTN Radio awards for "Best Daytime Show". Sadly, his 2011 success in commercial radio also meant a loss in retail radio as his promotion to Weekday Breakfast Show host on Good Hope FM meant he was unable to continue at both stations and he thus relinquished his role at Ackermans.

As a Breakfast show host Guy offers a unique listening experience with his zany sense of humour and brilliant impersonations. The team also have the rare distinction of broadcasting their show every Thursday on the Live morning TV Show "Expresso" on SABC 3 Expresso Show Here you can witness Breakfast Radio meeting Breakfast TV, a truly unique combination, and enjoy their G-Sport feature that is broadcast across both mediums. If you're looking for an entertaining start to your day make sure you tune in for the Traffic Jam, hilarious radio sketches and the Oh My Word of the Day, Monday to Friday, 6-9am

Guy's passion for film finally culminated in his partnership in a new media production company, McDonald Mundy Productions. Specialising in viral videos and Webverts these new kids on the block were well received with their first webvert achieving a feature on the popular 2oceansvibe blog. Guy was the Scriptwriter, Director and Co-producer along with Hilton Mundy who has continued the business under a new name. His current work can be viewed here: Short Final.tv

Guy went on to do freelance work with eTV, producing and presenting inserts for Robin Adam's "Sports Fan" show aired Monday's at 9pm on the eNews Channel (DSTV Channel 403). This experience was the fulfillment of a dream for Guy as it provided him with the opportunity to meet and research interesting characters, develop a storyline and present that to camera.

So what's next for this talented Voice-artist, Impersonater, Actor, Master of Ceremonies and Breakfast radio host? Guy plans to share his knowledge and experience through media coaching and has already coached Mr South Africa 2011 amongst others.
